Roy City Dog Park
Opened summer 2007.
ROY DOG PARK UNSAFE
While the idea of a dog park in roy is wonderful, and appreciated,we have to warn users of some potentially deadly problems.
1. There are three gates, any of which are often open when users arrive.
2. The main entrance gate is not double gated design. Therefore when new visitors arrive, a risk of visiting dogs getting out of the enclosure is very high.
3. This is the worst! There are dozens of lengths of fence that do not reach the ground; thereby offering dogs ample opportunity to slither under and escape the area. These gaps are huge. Our 76 pound Treeing Walker went right under the fence when a nieghbpr's dog appeared on the other side of the fence. Luckily we were able to get her back before she was hit by a vehicle.
OVERALL: TWO THUMBS AND TWO DEW CLAWS DOWN ON THIS DOG PARK UNTIL THESE DANGEROUS DEFICIENCIES ARE CORRECTED!
At least it's somewhere to run...
The "Dog Park" is a fenced drainage pond with no shade or seating. While there is a walking trail around the raised exterior of the drainage area, you really have to plan on when you go to the park. If you go during the wrong time of the day, it's just too hot for you and your dog). If it has rained at all in the last couple days, consider your dog will likely not stay on the trail and will become extremely muddy. Bascially, plan carefully around what time of day you go and what the weather has been like. Be sure to bring your own water.
At most we've been there with 2 or 3 other dogs at a time, so it is far from crowded.
I appreciate finally having somewhere local to take our dogs to run, however, it doesn't have much to offer and you just need to be aware of the weather around the time/day you go.
